A Sleep Problem And An Answer

Today two different posts on sleep came up in my feed reader:

Firstly, Laura has a sleep problem, as she said:

I sleep between 40 and 90 minutes at a time, and then wake up.  I can manage to go back to sleep easily enough….until about 3 am.  Clearly, 3 am is my witching hour.  I am wide awake at that time.  So, I get up and do some stuff for a little while (dishes/light house cleaning), until I crash at 5:30.

There are a few suggestions unfolding over at her blog on how to beat the problem…

But secondly, Jay White has suggested how to retrain your body clock to sleep better, he reckons:

I used to be the guy that stayed up late and woke up with barely enough time to shower before work. So, how did I change that? It’s actually pretty simple, I installed a regimen that I have now followed for years. On average, I believe that I have given myself an extra 5 hours per week or (do the math) an extra 10.8 days per year to get stuff done.

  1. Great sleep ideas you have.

I used to be the girl who screwed around with her sleeping schedules. For awhile I would sleep between 5pm and midnight. Just so I could get more done. Uninterrupted quiet time was ideal for me. I think it lasted about a summer. One very super productive summer.

Or trying to sleep for a length of time that was divisible by 90 minutes. That didn’t seem to work for me either.

I am not wanting to take prescription meds to help me sleep. Nyquil is about as far as I will go in that department. And I am trying to kill the addiction to that. Eventually it will sort itself out. In the meantime I have a very very clean apartment, since that is the activity I choose to do, while I am wide awake while I should be sleeping.

Thanks for all of the ideas.

    Laura
