Possible Cause: You’re just not excited enough!
This is the first in a Thinking Thursdays series of possible causes to fatigue (besides that late night).
“You’re just not excited enough” is probably the worst way to describe it. In fact, I’m probably totally wrong with that, but I’m not a med student, so I’ll plead ignorance.
The real phrase would be something like the under-stimulation of the adrenal glands. In other words, you aren’t handling stress or excitement well. I couldn’t come accross any specific treatment, so if you know of some, let me know. But there are diagnostic tests that are used: one is where they stimulate the glands, and the other is simply a CT scan.
For the really interested, checkout this research article (you’ll need to pay I think). Others have talked about this, so if you have any experience or knowledge, speak up! (For example, it might be caused by caffeine?)

I haven’t clicked the links, so I can’t say that these ones aren’t saying that - but my understanding of this theory is that it is the equivalent to “adrenal fatigue”. You’ve already used your adrenals *too much*, and now they just don’t have anything left to give. A popular alternative medicine theory for some cases of CFS is a combination of hypothyroidism and adrenal fatigue, which can account for an aweful lot of the main symptoms. The way to reverse it is through a delicate balance of glandular extracts to support both organs until the system rights itself - the problem is that most conventional doctors will treat the hypothyroidism while ignoring the adrenal glands, which makes the adrenal problem worse.
For other ways to support your adrenals, check out “Adrenal Fatigue: The 21st Century Stress Syndrome” by James L. Wilson. I can tell you that cutting out the caffeine is definitely a priority!
I totally agree with Jenna - ‘cutting out the caffeine is definitely a priority’.
I finally quit drinking coffee several months ago after more than 30 yrs drinking 5 to 10 cups of coffee daily. The difference of my energy levels were very noticeable. Coffee really was the culprit for me.
Hey!…Thanks for the nice read, keep up the interesting posts..what a nice Thursday
